The Red de Investigadores de Juegos de Rol (RIJR) – Network of Role-Playing Game Researchers – announces the opening of the proposal submission period for the 9th Colloquium on Role-Playing Game Studies, to be held from September 10 to 12, 2025, in a hybrid format (in-person and virtual) at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, and at the Centro Cultural Paco Urondo, in Argentina.
Central theme of this edition:
Transgression and Fiction: Community Values and Representations of Its Violence
The event aims to bring together researchers from various disciplines to critically reflect on role-playing games and their multiple social, cultural, and political dimensions.
Important dates:
- Deadline for proposal submissions: May 24, 2025
- Notification of acceptance: July 28, 2025
- Deadline to submit final papers (article format): September 5, 2025
- Cultural activities during the event: September 10–12, 2025
- Presentation of papers (in-person and virtual): September 10–12, 2025, at the University of Buenos Aires, Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, and Centro Cultural Paco Urondo.
Proposal submission and acceptance process
A) All individuals interested in the topic are welcome to participate.
B) Proposals must be submitted no later than May 24, 2025, through the official website of the Network of Role-Playing Game Researchers (RIJR): https://academialdelrol.org.mx. C) Your proposal must include the following:
1. Title of the paper
2. Author(s)
3. University, institution, or research group affiliation (for each author)
4. Contact email (for each author)
5. Contact phone number
6. Country and city of residence
7. Abstract (300–500 words)
8. Line of research (see section D)
9. Keywords (3 to 5)
10. Indication of whether the paper will be presented in-person or virtual

E) On July 28, 2025, notifications of acceptance will be sent via email to each applicant.
F) If accepted, the paper must be submitted in article format and presented as an oral presentation during the event.
Presentation guidelines
- The paper (in article format) must follow APA style (7th edition) and be 4,000 to 6,000 words in length (excluding references and appendices).
- Format: Word document (version 97 or later), Arial 12 pt font, 1.5 line spacing.
- The oral presentation must not exceed 15 minutes, followed by a Q&A session.
Evaluation and general information
- Proposals will be evaluated double-blind by scholars with experience in role-playing game studies.
- Each participant may submit only one paper as first author, but may appear as co-author on up to three papers.
- A certificate of participation will only be issued to those who have presented their paper and submitted the final article by the deadline.
- The final program will be sent via email and published on the official social media channels of the Network of Role-Playing Game Researchers (RIJR).
