Call for papers

The Role Play Researchers Network (RIJR) and the Institución Universitaria Pascual Bravo, invites you to participate in the 7th International Colloquium on Role Play Studies.

Important dates:

  • 1. proposal registration deadline: 27 May 2023.
  • 2. Deadline for submission: July 28, 2023.
  • 3. Deadline for receipt of paper in article format: September 15, 2023.
  • 4. Cultural activities parallel to the event: November 1, 2023.
  • 5. Submission of virtual papers: November 2 and 3, 2023.
  • 6. Presentation of papers in person: November 2 and 3, 2023 at the Institución Universitaria Pascual Bravo, Sede Robledo in Medellín, Colombia.

Acceptance process and presentation of proposals:

  1. A) Any person interested in the topic may participate.
  2. B) The proposal must be submitted no later than May 27, 2023 at https://academiadelrol.org.mx/index.php/registro2023 Previously, you must register as a researcher in the same page of the Network in the section "Join" or under the address: https://academiadelrol.org.mx/index.php/unete. Only one proposal can be submitted per main author.

  1. C) The proposal must contain:
  • I. Title of the paper.
  • II. Author(s).
  • III. University, institution or group of affiliation, per author.
  • IV. Contact e-mail address, per author.
  • V. Contact telephone number.
  • VI. Country.
  • VII. State.
  • VIII. A summary of 300 to 500 words.
  • IX.  Line of research (see section D).
  • X. Key words (3 to 5).
  1. D) The proposal must specify the line of research to which it is framed:
  • Pedagogy and Didactics 
  • Literature and Narrative
  • Philosophy
  • Art and Design
  • History of Role Playing Games in Latin America and the World
  • Psychology and Communication
  • Cultural Studies and Anthropology
  • Digital Communities
  1. E) As of July 28, 2023, the decision of the proposal will be communicated electronically to each interested party.
  2. F) If the proposal is accepted, the participant will participate with a paper in article format and an oral/virtual presentation of the paper (November 2 and 3, 2023).
  3. G) Both the article and the paper must correspond to the registered proposal and include -in this order- the following sections:
  4. Introduction (concise, stating the objectives of the research),
  5. Theoretical and/or methodological approach (brief and allowing to know the theoretical assumptions guiding the research, as well as methodological tools and categories of analysis),

iii. Results (detailed explanation of the fundamental findings and exposition of the scope and limits of the research),

  1. Conclusions (brief and with final considerations).
  2. H) The rules of style, citations and references will be in accordance with those stipulated in the APA Publication Style Manual (7th edition), in Word files (version 97 or later) with a length of 4000 to 6000 words (without considering references and annexes), in 12 point Arial font format with 1.5 line spacing.
  3. I) The oral presentation of the paper should focus on the sections mentioned in section G and have a maximum duration of 15 (proposed) minutes. The oral presentation will be accompanied by a brief question and answer period.
  4. General aspects:
  5. J) The receipt of proposals does not imply their acceptance.
  6. K) The evaluation of the proposal will be carried out in a double blind format, by persons recognized in the academic field, with a Doctor's degree or equivalent experience in the area of role playing games.
  7. L) Research and team work may give rise to more than one communication. However, it cannot be fragmented without responding to the sections indicated in the previous points.
  8. M) When a paper bears the signature of several researchers, it will appear in the proceedings of the colloquium with the order of authorship proposed in the paper and article.
  9. N) Certificates will only be issued to those persons who have been accepted to the colloquium, made the presentation and sent their complete article by the deadline.
  10. O) Only one paper will be accepted as first signatory, but the same person may sign as second or third signatory up to a maximum of three papers.
  11. P) The proposal of the papers to be presented at the 7th International Colloquium on Role Playing Game Studies will be sent in advance via e-mail to its participants and the final program will be announced to the public.
